I have developed the habit of dating the container every time I fill it with fresh spice or herbs. The ones I use often -- cinnamon, for example, which I use up in just a few months -- don't really need a date, but I may not know how long it has been since I bought fresh mace or turmeric. I write the purchase date on a piece of freezer tape and stick it on the bottom of the bottle. About once a year I quickly go through the drawer to check the dates and write on the shopping list anything that's due for replacement due to age. Beautiful results, Brandie.
